Mechanical Testing
The utilization of new materials, manufacturing- and joining technologies as well as the demand for light weight construction and miniaturization, and the integration of more functionality in less components increase the complexity and requirements for modern devices. Safe-guarding the device functionality over the required life time is becoming increasingly significant. For over 20 years, we have been engaged in the development and testing of implants, mainly for the spine.
The application of statutory standards
and the development of new test specifications which realistically simulate the device load in the human body is one of the core competencies of the ACES GmbH. The spectrum of mechanical tests ranges from simple static to multi-axial fatigue tests in corrosive environment to determine the life-time, wear and infinite fatigue strength. The test results and our analysis are often the basis for regulatory approval submissions required by authorities such as the US-FDA, the European MDD (CE-Mark) and other international authorities.
Our services in the area of mechanical testing are completed with the experimental stress analysis utilizing strain gauges (down to measurement spots of 0.2mm / 0.008”) as well as optical, chemical and metallurgical inspections of materials, micrographs, and fracture areas for failure analyses. We work together in close cooperation with the ISO 17025 accredited lab of the Steinbeis Transfer Center BWF and the University of Applied Science in Esslingen, adding renown experts and state-of-the-art equipment to our portfolio.
